Hypocrisy, anybody?

I'm only going to comment on the Palin related aspect to the recent Arizona shooting. We still don't have all the facts on other aspects yet (like the shooter's previous history of mental health issues and substance abuse which probably made him a prohibited person, whether any bystanders returned fire, etc).

Of course, the MSM spin machine is firing up the whole meme of far-right violence for this latest tragedy. The far left is even more outraged. Here's a quote from the DailyKos, a far-left progressive site:

"But his story is instructive of the increasingly--and obviously--dangerous and violent rhetoric of the far right, fueled by hate radio and rightwing media."

For reference, here's the graphic that Sarah Palin's PAC used:

This is the exact same website that just one election cycle ago put Rep Giffords in a bullseye and on a "target list" and bolded her for "added emphasis" because she was a "Blue Dog" Democrat:

And it appears that the shooter was a far left nut job and drug abuser. That doesn't match up with the redneck humping talk-radio listening far right extremist militia meme though so I don't expect much coverage on it.

I'm not a huge Sarah Palin fan at all, but my goodness, the absolute hatred that is heaped on her is kind of surprising to me. The double standard is amazing. If the left puts a "bullseye" on someone who is on a "target list" then that is totally acceptable. If the right does exactly the same thing, it is crazy extremist talk that is right on the line of "inciting imminent lawless action," and thus is speech that is exempt from the 1A and can be surpressed. If a crazy right-winger commits a violent act, we'll hear about it in the news as politically motivated violence for months or years. If a crazy left-winger commits a violent act, then their views are "unique" or they are "troubled" or for some reason it is not political violence. This one is already being labeled as "terrorism."

On a side note, I'll be interested to see if there is any more info about civilians returning fire. Fox is already reporting that as a possibility. If the shooter was wounded before he ran away and got tackled that will be good evidence to show in favor of the benefits of Alaska Carry.

In any event, I hope that Rep Giffords has a speedy recovery. From a 2A point of view, Rep Giffords was on our side. She joined the Heller briefs on the correct side of the issue and was a "Blue Dog" Democrat that makes support for RKBA arms issues a bipartisan issue. Regardless of her other political beliefs, I'd still hope for a speedy recovery. We still have a functioning judicial and electoral system in this country and indiscriminate political violence is not acceptable. The shooter should be treated like a criminal. Arizona will probably lock him up for at least 25 years (that is when AZ paroles most Murder 1 perps), but hopefully they get life w/out parole for him. His crime is particularly heinous, especially as it includes the murder of a 9 year old child.
